Tamiya 1/35 Pack of Velociraptors

And now for something a little different! This Tamiya kit fairly accurately reproduces the predator from the late Cretaceous Period. I have not built a Tamiya prehistoric animal kit before, so this was a bit of an adventure.

The raptors come on 4 sprues with 3 different body poses and a selection of leg and arm positions.

They are relatively easy to assemble, but require some putty and sanding at the joints.  At this point, I realized that this is like building 6 small models, not just one.  It turned out to be much more effort than I had anticipated.

Here are a few testing out their bases prior to painting.

I decided to do different colors for each one, so here they are getting some base color coats.  All painting was done with Tamiya acrylics using a brush.

Here is the Toronto Raptor, at the time representing the NBA Champions.

A here is the Los Angeles Laker Raptor, who would represent the 2020 NBA champs.

Painting all done!

And here is the entire pack on their bases. I took some dirt from the lawn and glued it to the bases to make the terrain look more realistic, then put them on a block of stryofoam. So here is the final lineup:

“Blue”from Jurassic World.

Toronto Raptor.

Pittsburgh Steeler Raptor.

The original Jurassic Park raptor.

Jurassic Park II: The Lost World raptor.

Los Angeles Laker Raptor.

Overall, a fun project but a bit taxing on the patience for a kit without any complicated masking and a minimal number of differently painted parts. Multiplying virtually every operation by 6 times is tedious.
