Big Game Preview: BGP vs. Stack
Dave Smith
Nov 05, 2002
Last
week, the tone was set. Following a bizarre series of incidents at "the Dome"
during last weeks matchup between the underrated BGP and the over-hyped IP-Stack
tonight's long awaited re-match takes centre stage.
Stack will likely bring their usual brash brand of play, heavy on the isolation of either wideout Tom Szczerbowski or slotback Kirk Ireland. "I just throw ‘em and ... guys catch ‘em. ... It’s that simple" said Stack QB Paul McRae,
referring to the fact that rarely do is passes go incomplete. McRae has been
picked off twice this season as he struggles to adapt to the increased number
of receivers he has.
BGP on the other hand will go with their offensive philosophy of spreading
the ball around. "We move the ball around, so that they can't key on one
or two guys." asserted Dave Smith,
who has played at both the slotback and quarterback positions this year.
"We like to throw the short balls too, which Stack doesn't tend to do.
We try to get 10 yards on each of our first couple of plays, then shoot for
the endzone."
BGP slotback Pablo Frank
will look to improve upon his career day of last week that saw him limit
his opposing receiver to one catch, pick off an erant McRae pass and catch
a Smith TD toss. "My game is getting damn good now baby!" sang Frank who
was out at a local club last evening.
Tonight's matchup will see import Rob Hutchinson square off against
Szczerbowski in a match up that could dictate the outcome of the game. Szczerbowski
has allegedly claimed that Hutchinson has committed pass inteference call
after call. Hutchinson has retaliated that Szczerbowski is trying to play
mind games in order to further his league leading number of touchdowns.
Regardless, this game inside the game will be fun to watch.
Whatever the outcome of tonight's game, rest assured that both teams
will meet again next week, and the week after, and the week after...
