KANATA, ON — A tight game between the two fierce OFL rivals was only
broken open in the late going when the Irish Stout’s QB nonpareil, Paul
McRae, threw two long touchdowns to pull away from a plucky French
Foreign Legion squad that gave the Stout all they could handle on a
beautiful afternoon for football at Entrust Cryptography Field.

After moving well on offense, the Legion failed to score. McRae threw
a rainbow to Kirk Ireland and the league’s leading scorer danced in for
the first touchdown of the game. After eschewing the punt, the Legion
left a short field for the Stout and husky tight end Dan Murdock made
them pay, scoring his first touchdown of the game.

Following a rare Stout punt, the Legion replied with a steady drive
and a Louis Aubin TD to make the score 12-7. However, McRae and Ireland
responded with another long scoring connection over bewildered defender,
Mo Elabd. “You try doing this without food or water,” he commented,
“Wait until next month when we will kick your infidel asses!”

Murdock interceptions blunted (no pun intended) three Legion drives
deep into Stout territory. McRae also uncharacteristically threw three
picks, the last one a meaningless turnover on the game’s last play.
Legion CB/WR Louis Aubin was seemingly everywhere on the field,
defending passes and scoring touchdowns, including one on an
interception return. “If only I could throw and catch my own passes,
I wouldn’t need these putzes!” he exclaimed, exhibiting the team first
attitude he is famous for.

The Legion closed to within 24-19, but long touchdowns to Murdock and
rookie Bevan Watkiss extinguished any hopes of an upset. Disaster was
narrowly averted as defender Yves Charron barely avoided being hurt by
Watkiss’s celebratory waving of his cement hands in the air,
